I haven’t written in a while, so I decided it was time to dig up another poem I wrote when I was in sixth grade.  I hope you enjoy! :)

April

Splish-splash, pitter-patter, drip-drop,
Come the sounds of rain on my roof top.
My cats lie napping, wishing for sun,
So they may run around and have fun.

The sun shining through the rain and what do I see?
A bright, colorful rainbow looking back at me.
But, oh, how sad, it soon disappears,
And brings great big raindrops that look like tears.

But when May comes, flowers bloom,
Therefore ending April’s gloom.
For April showers
Bring May flowers.

Doughnuts…again January 29, 2009

Earlier I shared with you a poem I wrote about doughnuts.  Apparently my dad wrote his own version of a poem about Doughnuts.  So today I will share his Doughnut poem.  Enjoy! :)

Doughnuts
written by my dad

Doughnuts! Doughnuts! Doughnuts, I say,
Give me a doughnut.  Give it today!

I want a doughnut.  I want it right now!
If I don’t get a doughnut, I’ll “have a cow!”

“I’d gladly pay you Tuesday, for a doughnut today,”
Or I’ll just steal one, and then run away.

Let’s get a doughnut at Casey’s today,
Let’s get a doughnut, that’s all I can say.

Doughnuts! Doughnuts! Doughnuts, I pray,
If you don’t give me a doughnut, I’ll just run away.

I’ll go to the bakers and buy one for a nickel,
If that’s not enough, I guess I’ll be stuck eating a dill pickle.

Doughnuts! Doughnuts! Doughnuts are fun,
If you won’t buy me a dozen, at least buy me just one!

Please! Please! Please buy me two, I cry.
‘Cause if you don’t, I surely will die!

Well, dear readers…as you can tell, I’ve still been suffering a bit from writer’s block.  I’ve been a bit busy with my Wooden Rabbit adventures and Thompson Lake, but I’ve about run out of ramblings here.  In the mean time, I think I’ll share another poem I wrote in sixth grade.  This one was inspired by a craving for doughnuts.  I had to write a poem a month that year for school.  Perhaps I should set a goal to write a poem a month again this year?  Anyway…I hope you enjoy. :)

Doughnuts!

“Doughnuts! Doughnuts! Doughnuts!” I plead.
“Doughnuts! Doughnuts! Doughnuts I need!”
I begged for Dad to get me some,
But all he did was hand me a plum.

Dad replied, “I know you think doughnuts are nice,
But how about instead you have some rice.”
“But it’s a doughnut I want, one with glaze,
It’s a doughnut I want, a doughnut I crave!”

“I would like a doughnut, one made with yeast,
And perhaps with sprinkles, it’s sure to please!
Please?” I asked.  “May I have at least one?”
But Dad replied, “You may have none!”

Frustration and Writer’s Block January 8, 2009

Well, good readers….I have come to a point that all writers come to eventually:  writer’s block.  And oh what a frustration that can be.  So, while I sit and think of where to go next, allow me to share yet another poem I wrote when I was in the sixth grade.  I was experiencing a similar trouble of not being able to think of anything, and I had to come up with something for my monthly poem assignment for school.  I was getting frustrated at my dad because he just kept spouting off random crazy poems and limericks that he would make up off the top of his head, which wasn’t helping me in the slightest.  But I eventually came up with a poem about not being able to come up with a poem.  Originally called February Frustration (because it was my poem for the month of February that year), I’ve modified the title just a bit since it is not February yet.  And since the poem has nothing to do with the month of February, I figured I could go ahead and share it now.  So I hope you enjoy!

Frustration, Frustration!

Oh me! Oh my! What could I do?
Inspiration just wouldn’t come.
I waited and waited and waited ‘all year,’
But that inspiration didn’t arrive here!

I waited and waited and waited some more,
But inspiration didn’t knock on my door!
Instead it went to my neighbor’s house,
And knocked on the door of a teeny, tiny mouse.

He sat right down and began to write,
He wrote on his poem until it was night.
Then he brought it for me to see,
And reading his poem inspired me.

A New Year’s tribute to snow January 1, 2009

Happy New Year dear readers!  I am back, after a break to visit family for Christmas.  I had written before about wishing for a white Christmas.  Unfortunately, I did not get my white Christmas. :(   We got a bit of ice, but no snow.  So today, as a New Year’s post, I will share a tribute to the wonderful white stuff called snow.  This is a poem I wrote when I was in 6th grade.  I hope you enjoy!

Snow

Snow, snow, slowly drifting to the ground.
Snow, snow, swirling all around.
It covers the ground in dazzling white,
Sparkling, shining, oh so bright!

Each flake so tiny and so cold,
Yet it takes millions to be able to mold.
As it lands on your coat sleeve’s fold,
It jumps and it dances, a story to be told.

Oh, how fun to play in,
Running around, building snowmen;
Making snow angels on the hillside.
But, oh, how sad; it’s time to go inside.

Well, dear readers, I decided to share with you another poem I wrote.  When I was in sixth grade, we had to write a poem every month.  So here is the Christmas (December) poem I wrote.  Hope you enjoy!

The Christmas Mouse

‘Twas a bright Christmas night, and all through the house,
A creature was stirring, and he was a mouse.
He was trapped in a box tossed aside without care,
And he could not get out–was there enough air?

He wiggled and he struggled and he tried to get free,
Oh, how badly he wished he could see!
Then in the morning a girl came to see;
She saw a box moving, and she set him free.

He jumped from the box and ran all around,
Until he ran into a wall and fell to the ground.
He picked himself up and ran to his house,
Saying, “Squeak! Squeak!” like a good Christmas mouse.

The Turkeys’ Thanksgiving November 25, 2008

Well…as promised, here is my Thanksgiving poem, written when I was12 years old.  I was inspired a bit by the Halloween poem my dad wrote that I shared on Halloween.  Enjoy! :)

The Turkey’s Thanksgiving

“Help! Help!” came a voice from the farm.
“Thanksgiving’s here! Sound the alarm!”

The turkeys got scared; they all ran away.
Oh, what a dreadful day.

Here come the hunters, each with a gun,
Getting those turkeys sure will be fun.
All through the field, follow the tracks,
We must catch a turkey before we turn back.

When after three hours no turkeys were found,
The hunters turned back with faces that frowned.
When the turkeys found out, they all danced and sang,
Celebrating Thanksgiving without a big bang!

Happy Halloween everyone! As a special Halloween treat, I am sharing, with permission, a Halloween poem my dad wrote.  Inspired by the poet Oliver Wendell Holmes, he wrote it I believe sometime when he was a child.  Enjoy! :)

“Help! Help!” came a voice from the house.

“The ghosts are back!” hollered a mouse.

The people ran, the ghosts flew,

What happened to the house, nobody knew.

The women screamed, the men had to shout.

From an upstairs window, a ghost fell out!
